Top ten urban artists

The urban art gallery, artrepublic, has launched its 2008 top ten of who’s made the biggest impact in the UK urban art scene in 2008 and who’s set for even bigger stardom in 2009. The list is compiled from sales and customer feedback reports, together with an ‘insider’ view of the cutting edge art market.

Sitting at the top of the list is urban legend, Banksy, who has a global cult following and whose works generate cash, controversy and admiration in equal measure. Banksy is followed by MissBugs – a duo of Muse and Artist – who came from out of nowhere this year with sell-out shows and had collectors queuing for their superhero-inspired work.

Third on the list is Nick Walker, a Bristol-based contemporary of Banksy whose pictures are now soaring in value. Coming up fourth is the Frenchman known as C215 - who according to Art Republic, ‘literally lives for stencils’ – followed by Charming Baker, who puts an unusual twist on the still life genre.

In sixth place is another Frenchman, Blek Le Rat, who had considerable influence on the now more famous Banksy and who has been in hiding for years as the French police pursue him with a massive graffiti fine. Next up on the list is a supposed descendant of Thomas Moore who goes by the name Pure Eviland already has work on display in the Tate Modern.

Spanish ‘art princess’ Lidia de Pedrorocks up in eighth place, with colourful and ethereal works and prints that are selling straight off the press. Brighton printer Screen Princeis in at number nine, making a living from unusual portraits of his favourite musical icons, from Bob Marley to Beethoven. Last but not least on the list is Ben Allen, who according to artrepublic is “on the speed dial of every hip interior designer in town and it shows.”

Our products will feature in the 'Brighton, East Sussex' episode, to be broadcast on ITV1 on Wednesday 17th September at 2pm.

Eyes open as it it will probable be a 'Blink and Miss It' feature.

Threadneedle Figurative Prize

We have been notified of an exhibition/competition being run by Mall Galleries called the Threadneedle Prize.

7 works have been selected by a panel, and the public gets to vote on which reeived the £25K prize.

You can vote at the exhibition or by visiting the website HERE

Unfortunatly we weren't given the information to promote the competition until after the submission deadline, but I have included it for future reference.

Stretcher Bars and Canvases Exciting News

New developments are underway in the manufacture of our Stretcher Bars and Canvases.

We are currently investing in brand new custom machinery to improve the quality of our already outstanding stretcher bars. We are expecting the new more refined accuracy to allow for the re introduction of our Softwood Stretcher Bars this Autumn and also the addition of wedged 24mm Deep Stretcher bars. This also means that we will be able to offer our Studio Range canvases with wedges as opposed the the current fixed frames.
In addition, because of the helpful return of so many of our surveys we have lots of new exciting changes planned for this autum. More to follow soon............

News Flash…..

New Wedges

Some of you may have noticed our new chunkier wedges. After listening to your comments we decided to improve on our current thin (and splintery) ply wedges, which did the job fine but after a few taps of a hammer ended up a bit tatty. We think our new 6mm all birch ply wedges look and perform a lot better
